San Fernando Valley · Reverse Osmosis Installation
Reverse osmosis installation. All 12 SFV cities.
A seven-stage under-sink reverse osmosis system removes 99% of dissolved solids from LADWP and Las Virgenes MWD supply, including fluoride, arsenic, nitrates, and microplastics. The alkaline remineralization stage adds back calcium and magnesium for balanced pH and clean taste. We install in under two hours and cover the work with a 5-year parts and labor warranty. Every fitting is run by a licensed general contractor to Los Angeles County code.
What each stage removes
The seven-stage system we install is specified for LADWP chloramine supply. Standard two-stage or three-stage units miss the chloramine pre-treatment step and the alkaline remineralization stage that makes RO output taste good.
- 01
Sediment pre-filter
Particulate above 5 microns, sand, rust, and pipe debris. Protects downstream stages.
- 02
Pre-carbon block (chloramine-rated)
Removes chloramine, which LADWP uses instead of free chlorine. A standard carbon block will not do this effectively.
- 03
Second pre-carbon polishing
Second-pass chloramine and chemical compound removal before the membrane.
- 04
RO membrane (0.0001 micron)
Removes 99% of dissolved solids at the molecular level. Fluoride, arsenic, nitrates, lead, microplastics, and sodium all stop here.
- 05
Post-carbon polishing
Taste and odor final polish on water coming out of the storage tank.
- 06
Alkaline remineralization
Adds back calcium and magnesium for pH between 7.5 and 8.0. This is what makes filtered water taste clean rather than flat.
- 07
Pressurized storage tank
3.2-gallon tank holds treated water at pressure for instant draw at the dedicated kitchen faucet.
LADWP vs Las Virgenes MWD: does the RO spec change?
Most of the San Fernando Valley is on LADWP, which uses chloramine disinfection. The western communities including Calabasas, Agoura Hills, and West Lake Village are on Las Virgenes Municipal Water District, which delivers imported Metropolitan Water District supply at a consistent 8 grains per gallon hardness from the Colorado River share of the blend.
For Las Virgenes MWD homes, the higher hardness and total dissolved solids load from the Colorado River share makes a RO system at the kitchen tap particularly effective. The membrane handles the elevated TDS that the Las Virgenes supply carries even after treatment at the Jensen Filtration Plant. Our standard seven-stage system handles both supply profiles. We verify the pre-carbon stage spec at the quote appointment based on your utility and meter reading.

Frequently asked questions
- Is reverse osmosis necessary for San Fernando Valley tap water?
- LADWP and Las Virgenes MWD water meets all regulatory standards. Homeowners choose RO for pure drinking and cooking water at the kitchen tap, independent of utility supply. Families stopping bottled water purchases typically see payback in under two years. Verify current readings at ladwp.com or lvmwd.com.
- How long does a reverse osmosis installation take in the SFV?
- Under two hours for most kitchens. We mount the housing, run the dedicated faucet, connect supply and drain, and test at the tap before leaving. Optional refrigerator or ice-maker line adds thirty to forty-five minutes.
- Does a reverse osmosis system work with LADWP chloramine water?
- Yes, with a pre-carbon stage rated for chloramine. Our systems are specified for LADWP supply. The pre-carbon block protects the RO membrane from chloramine and the five-year warranty covers the membrane and all filter stages.
